Who we are
The Trade Union Rights Campaign – Pakistan was set up in April 2005 to help coordinate solidarity and support for workers’ struggles against downsizing, privatisation, and the neo-liberal agenda of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund which is followed slavishly by the Musharraf government in Pakistan.
We are trade union leaders and activists who have organised themselves on a radical fighting platform to oppose the massive attacks against Pakistani workers by the government and the big companies which dominate the economy. The TURC-P is also committed to organising struggles in the so-called "informal" sector where there are no trade union rights or organisation.
The TURCP is not connected to any of the big political parties in Pakistan such as the Pakistani Muslim League (Musharraf’s party), the Pakistani Peoples Party (led by Benazir Bhutto), or the Pakistani Muslim League – Nawaz (Party of the former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif). All of these parties have in one form or another, either supported or initiated privatisation programmes in the country.
All trade union activists, members, and leaders who are committed to fighting the attacks on the workforce (privatisation, retrenchments, neo-liberalism) are welcome to join our campaigns.
